Knowing what to do and do-ing it
| Lately I have seen so much of how I am clear on what to do to accomplish whatever goals I would like. I think we all know what to do to be fit, to increase spiritual practice, to create the life we want. The hold up, or at least mine can be, is in the doing it. We have so much information at our fingertips that we are bound to be successful at whatever we choose if we apply it. But still we don't do it. Not that I have the answer to this very human dilemma but what I do in these times is nothing. Yep, nothing. When I want to accomplish something and I've been "trying" to no avail, I stop and pray. I stop and get centered in the Truth of my being. I stop trying to be do-fanatic (cuz if you know me I can definitely go there) and really get centered with what's True. Taking time to be in a space of recognition of the Divine plan for our lives in ALL areas can be a catalyst for any further action to do on our part. Yes, slowing down really does help. Just ask the Turtle. :) Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice Stop. Breath. Pray. Stop. Breath. Pray. Stop. Breath. Pray. Move when you are so calm that everything is fluid. For one week, stop trying to force yourself to do and just spend some time in the Being of the Presence of the One Life.

And acceptance is the answer...
Its been some weeks since I got a download for this email but this one has been persistent for a few days now.
"And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation--some fact of my life--unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place think, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake."
Acceptance. Hmph. I'm not sure about you but there are some things that I just don't want to accept! And what I've learned is that acceptance is just the first part of the work. Sometimes we have to look at what IS and say "Yep, this is what it is." It is only after we do that, that we can move into a space of choosing differently for the future. Acceptance and choice move us into a new way of being.
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
Find that one "fact of your life" that is difficult to accept. See it for what it is and accept it. Sure, it is what it is, but it doesn't have to stay that way. Change is possible via choice. Accept what is, choose differently next time. It's another one of those simple, but maybe not easy tasks. What do you need to accept so you can move forward? I've already started my list and moving steadily down it. :)

After spending some time becoming aware of what was really going on in my head and in my life I realized that there are definitely things I still need to let go of. It's funny because as a spiritual teacher I am ALWAYS learning. I think I teach because I am in constant state of learning.
This week is also the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, one of the "new years" of the Jewish faith. I appreciate all faiths so much and this time of year, from what I have studied, is a time of reflection on sins (mistakes) and repentance (change). So we are aware now. How about we forgive ourselves for whatever came up and make the changes necessary to be who we truly want to be.
My poet friend Tyler sent me the poem to the right a week or so ago on a really low day for me and it sums it up perfectly. We are STILL the Sun. Feelings, emotions, challenges, changes all will come. But we will still shine. Forgive. Let go. Change. It's SO do-able.
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
Set time aside daily this week to speak a word of forgiveness for yourself and affirm the TRUTH. Affirm truth with your own affirmation, this poem or how about "I am Life.I am Love. I am Light. I am Power. I am Health. I am Wholeness. I am LOVE." I know I will be!

"You Still Are The Sun"
And this will never change.
No matter how much doubt
Or pain,
Fills up in your brain,
No matter how many times you switch out of our lane,
Your path remains the same.
You see,
The Sun is steady,
It shines behind the rain,
Solid like a brick,
Will inflict all types of pain,
But it leads us to life,
Still,
Glows with so many lessons to gain,
All we have to do is maintain.~Tyler Epps

You ARE the sun-so are we all...
You ARE the sun..so are we all
Last week one of my favorite teachers, Rev. Cay Thompson transitioned and I wanted to say thank you to her for her light, her presence and her Truth. Grateful to have known her in the physical and sending love and prayers to her husband and family.
I've been at Omega for two weeks and I have to express the gratitude and love I feel for that place, the staff and all my friends there. I'm rested and ready.
I encountered this poem by a talented writer named Tyler Epps. Our practice this week is to contemplate the poem and what does it mean if we really ARE the sun? If each of us and each person we encounter were to shine to our full radiance and encounter all of the greatness? To learn to understand all of the stronger aspects of ourselves as the Sun? Can we embrace those aspects that might be scorching? Can we harness them for good like we have with solar energy? It's infinite the possibilities. What if each of us encouraged our friends, family and acquaintances to shine full out? Each of us has a gift to be harnessed for the benefit of the whole. Are you ready to shine?
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
Contemplate this poem or any aspect of it that strikes you...BE the SUN. Give yourself 5 minutes a day to do this at least.
"You're really the Sun"
Well damn...
I guess that means I can't run.
I guess that means that I'll shine without
trying but Ill try to have fun.
See,
The Sun is Power.
It's the fuel to all Life.
So think about the flip side.
It burns,
it's hot,
can kill,
Is that right?
Let me try to maintain,
Stay Humble,
Stay Sane,
Can't let this fuel that I hold,
Burn my mind,
Kill my brain.
Thanks Tyler. And happy practice this week. We are each stronger, brighter and more capable than we recognize.
Practice THAT!

Perfect Practice
Perfect Practice
I hope you had a GREAT time defining what your most enjoyable life is. A big part of my enjoyable life is the ability to practice-meditate, chant, yoga, breath throughout every day. Over the years I have begun to perfect my practice. It's not that is a perfect practice (Lord knows there are days that getting up at 4:30 am is NOT happening) but it is a practice I work at perfecting by staying tuned into my Higher Power/God all day long. This week lets take some time to perfect our practice by discovering what practices we really love and are committed to doing every day. Practice makes perfect right, well how much joy we can experience in a day can expand when our focus is on bringing our practice into everything we do.
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
Ask yourself throughout the day, what practices do I love? What practices do I want to do more of? When can I shift my focus from the world of form to the realm of the spirit? Not in a way that distracts us but in a way of finding God right in the midst of where we are. Find the practice that you love and lets contemplate what it means for each of us to "perfect" it.

We ALL have a purpose
There are so many books about finding your souls purpose on this planet. I love all these different ways to open our minds. Another way to do this is contemplation. Dedicated thought to one item. We've done this before but this week lets devote some silence (yes, you sitting quietly without distraction, you can do it) to contemplating the question, "What is God's purpose for my life?". Rev Darrell Jones, well he's almost official but certainly is already a minister said this, "Our Life is actually God's vision!" Thanks for that Darrell. And if we know that our life is God's vision it gets so much easier! So lets get quiet, lets ask, lets listen. I will actually be devoting an entire day of silence to this, any takers?
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
Determine a time and space for you to get quiet and still. Close your eyes, breath slowly, center yourself, and ask "What is God's purpose for my life? or "Why did my Spirit inhabit this body in this time right now?" or "What am I here for?" or "What is God's vision of me?" Or come up with your own question along those lines. But be persistent, do it everyday for as many minutes as you can. Or devote one whole day to it. Ask, and the door shall be opened. We all have a gift to share with the world, lets get to it!

"No better, no worse"
"No Better, No Worse"
While Jae and I were with the Grandmothers Council, I heard Grandmother Rita Blumenstein say, about dealing with people they are "no better and no worse". I was inspired by this. I have been doing this practice for three weeks now and it has had a profound impact in a few ways. I am clearer about where I still hold prejudices, clearer about when I'm judging myself or others and recognizing that we are ALL on our own journey and each is perfect. That's why you haven't heard from me either. The practice has gotten deeper as I've done it. I owe it to Grandmother Rita and I am so grateful that my Jae and I have been fortunate enough to serve these outstanding women. We did a 'no comparisons' practice a couple months ago. This takes it to a whole new level. Are you up for it?
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
Every time you encounter a person mentally say "no better, no worse". When you are riding on the train, looking at a magazine or tv ad and you see someone, mentally say "no better, no worse", when you see a house that is bigger or smaller than yours, mentally say "no better, no worse". When you have a conversation with someone you see as more powerful than you, ie. teacher, boss, mentally say "no better, no worse". Every opportunity you have to do this, give it a try. Talk about leveling the playing field. :)

I want it now...
I want it now..okay I will learn a lil (more) patience
Well, that shining sure is fun ain't it? After letting yourself be all glorious it might have occurred to you that there are things you still want to change about your life. Okay, well that's what occurred to me. :) I got a clear indicator that this week the practice is patience. Because I don't know about you but I want it all and I want it now. Yesterday even. So whatever comes up this week and you want it now, apply that balm of patience to it. What's that balm, you ask?
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
Thought "I want it now". Action-Breathe. Next thought "I have so much to be grateful for right now, like running water and food and a house and family who loves me and health and increasing wealth and on and on and on". We may not always get what we want but as the song says, "We get what we need!" and if we can practice a bit of patience in the process if just feels much better. I'll sure be working on it too.

Let your Light SHINE!
How often do you let your light shine? I mean really SHINE!! Without hiding, or making yourself small? I'm talkin' "THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE I'M GONNA LET IT SHINE!" All out SHINE!
We were taught to be humble and yes, humble is good, but we each have a gift to share. You, yes you reading this email from the crazy lady, YOU have a gift to share. We do no one any good by diminishing our light. Let your gifts shine this week. With pride. No where does it say that because we shine someone else has to dim. How it works is like the sun, just keep shining, there's plenty of light to go around!
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
BE EVERYTHING THAT YOU ARE!! YOU ARE PERFECT!!! SMILE, GIVE, SHARE, LAUGH, SING, CREATE, DANCE, TALK, LISTEN, CARE AND MOST IMPORTANTLY....

Walk YOUR Path
Ahhhh...surrender. This week we are walking our OWN path. No not the New Kids On The Block Path, or your neighbor's path or your friends path or your KIDS path, ONLY YOUR OWN PATH. What does this mean you say? Well it means that the gift that YOU came here to share, that only you can share with your specific skills and talents...let that guide you as you walk through this week.
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
Each day affirm what your gifts are and walk in them. If you are great with people, acknowledge it and keep it up, if your heart desires to sing-sing, if the thing that gives you the most joy is to garden-then garden. Here it is folks, there's only one you. WALK each day the path that is for YOU and YOU alone. Nice reminder, huh? It also means no comparing. Yeah, you are an ORIGINAL.

Actually Surrender
Last week we contemplated the what of our surrender. What exactly are we surrendering to? Well this week are gonna get into the deep practice of actually surrendering! Yes, giving up, raising the white flag, I give, "relinquish possession of control". And what does it mean to do this anyway?
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
Well this week, every single time you feel any emotion outside of peace immediately take that thought, item, concern, worry or care and surrender it to God. Say it out loud where you can, "I surrender_____________. It is now in Gods loving, generous capable hands." Then you can go about your day in peace, it is taken care of! Oh yeah, you have to keep doing over and over sometimes. It's okay, you're building your trust muscle.

What does SURRENDER mean?
Some of the definitions of surrender include:
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
This week lets contemplate the 'power of another'. Spend time daily in conversation or reflection with yourself or another about what am I surrendering to anyway? Do I trust the the 'power of another" is loving, generous, kind, creative, abundant? Do I know that "another" wants only for me to experience these qualities? Hmmmmm........
Peace and love,

To give oneself up into the power of another
To give up in favor of another.
To relinquish possession or control of to another because of demand or compulsion.
In Spiritual Practice we talk about surrendering. I have lived this way for many years and surrender feels GOOD. But how do we do it? I mean what is the act of surrendering. Well, first you gotta know what you are surrendering to, I believe. If you were to surrender all of your worries, concerns, cares, health, wealth and wellness, what would you be surrendering to? When we can't figure things out, we are ready to "relinquish control...because of demand or compulsion" but to what?

Compliments will get you EVERYWHERE!
Compliments will get you Everywhere!
Well, I took a couple weeks off after student teaching ended but I'm back. I missed you all ALOT!
Compliments are great aren't they! I mean I love to get compliments and I love even more to give them. It's easy to tell someone they look terrific or what they did meant a lot to you. But how often to we really shower ourselves with compliments? That's our practice this week, compliment yourself!
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
At least 12 times a day compliment yourself on something you love about you or that you know you did great. For example, nice smile, I love the shirt you chose today, great job in meditation, way to go with the delicious lunch you prepared.....you get the picture. No less than 12 and much more if you can! It gets easier the more you do it. Talk about a mood booster!

Let Go-Again and Again and Again
Letting Go...Again and again
Last August our practice was letting go. But then, we were letting go of an unneeded habit that was holding us back. This time we're letting go of a different habit. Life can get so busy and confusing sometimes and our minds will take over and run that tape of "What will happen? Will this work out? Will that work out? How do I know I'm doing the right thing?"...on and on and on it can go. Not this week. This week we are going to stop this mind and let go. Yes, just let go of those questions. Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice When we catch our mind going into 'figure it out-questioning" mode, stop, breath and say "I let go." And when it starts up again we let go again. Yes this is an exercise in trusting the Divine, God, Spirit. Wow, it's easier than it seems. Or at least it feels better. :) Peace and love, Gina~Har Kirat, RScP www.prashanti.us
Inhale, Exhale, Inhale, Exhale
Sit comfortably. Close your eyes. Place your hand on your belly and feel it rise with a deep inhale. Allow the exhale to effortlessly follow the inhale. Let your shoulders drop. Continue for 1 minute. Or make it two if you have time.
Prayer
Prayer
In light of the recent devastation in Japan dueI thought that only prayer can be sufficient right now. But what is prayer?, Who/what are we praying to? And so many people ask me, how do I pray? What science has shown is that prayer does impact a healing person. The how of this is still being discovered but prayer works. It is a personal conversation with the Divine of our own being. There is no right or wrong way to pray. It is a pure method for knowing and sending love. Speak whatever words come from your heart, for our brothers and sisters in Japan, for our global family and all the wars and rumors of wars, for gratitude for our families (here and beyond), for running water in our homes, for lights at the flip of a switch, for healing on a global scale.....for love. If all we do is send thoughts and words and prayers of love to each other, we will know peace. Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice Pray. However you do it. Speak words of love, peace and healing into the world. Peace and love, Gina~Har Kirat, RScP www.prashanti.us
One minute practice

Fast from WHAT?!
Fast from WHAT?!
Many of you know that I fast and cleanse pretty regularly and love it. It's about to be spring cleaning time and it came to me...how about we have a fast! I don't mean give up all food or anything like that, that can be dangerous for many people, I'm not advising that. Pick something that feels like if you let it go for a week, it might create more space in in your life. The options are endless-candy or soda or tv or the news or the newspaper or the snooze button or gossip or cookies or complaining...
There are so MANY options. Fasting from anything for one week gives you an opportunity to create space for more peace, more ease, and what I love more practice!.
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
Fast. Yes, pick one thing and give it up for the whole week. You choose. It can be something small like the snooze or something big (for me) like chocolate. Be mindful during each time that you consciously choose not to have it. In that moment take a breath and know that you are creating space for more peace, joy, love, wholeness and all around goodness in your world.
Peace and love,

One minute practice
Set your timer, inhale the word peace, exhale the word love, continue for one minute. To end, inhale deeply and hold for a sec, then exhale.
If you feel up to it, add more minutes or do more minutes throughout the day

Create Space-January 1, 2011
Create Space
Wow. It's amazing what a month devoted to leaning on God can do for a person! Well, for me anyway. It's also good to be back. What I realized in this month of prayer and meditation was that religiosity has been and will continue to be a means for us to know God/Goddess/Creator/Source, whatever you call the One. But sometimes we get caught up in the do-ing and forget the be-ing. It's so simple to access God, just be still for a minute and there God is, in everything, all the time. As the world is embarking on another calendar year I know there are many resolutions out there. I'm not suggesting resolutions, usually I choose to focus on one thing for the year but how about creating space to know God, personally?
Simple Everyday Spiritual Practice
Create space. Whether it's during your commute, five minutes in the morning, one minute before you go to bed or any random time throughout the day, create space, no matter how big or small to know God personally. What a difference it makes.
